Cyberpunk 2077 may feature seamless multiplayer and a huge living city

CD PROJEKT RED, the studio developing Cyberpunk 2077, recently applied for grants from the Polish GameINN program, which is interesting to everyone wondering what the game will be like as it reveals some information about its potential features. Of course, it doesn’t mean that those features will end up being implemented in the final version of the game, but it sure gives us an idea where CD PROJEKT RED wants to take the game.

GameINN program led by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) in Poland aims at increasing the competitiveness of the Polish gaming industry on the global market by 2023. The program came to life thanks to the initiative of Porozumienie Polskie Gry [Polish Games Accord], which consists of CD PROJEKT RED, Techland, 11 bit studios, CI Games, and People Can Fly, just to name a few.

CD PROJEKT S.A. – the head of the capital group that includes the developer of Cyberpunk 2077, CD PROJEKT RED – has applied for a grant for something named City Creation, and according to the description (translated from Polish by GamePressure) is “a complex technology for creating a huge living city, playable in real time, which [the technology] is based on rules, AI, and automation, and supports innovative processes and tools for making top-notch open-world games”.

There’s another interesting feature for which extra funds have been requested – Seamless Multiplayer, „a complex technology for making unique multiplayer gameplay mechanics, including the ability to search for opponents, manage game session, replicate objects, and support for different game modes along with a unique set of dedicated tools.” It reminds us of what Ubisoft intends to offer in Watch Dogs 2, a multiplayer mode where players can join other players’ sessions at any time.

Judging by how CD PROJEKT RED handled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077 is something to get excited about, but unfortunately there’s still no hint to when the game might get released.
